Offence Summary

Allen Wilton, a convicted paedophile, was jailed for 16 months after breaching his Sex Offenders Register requirements by using an encrypted chat app under a false name without notifying authorities.

Full Description

Allen Wilton, a 49-year-old resident of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, has a long history as a repeat child sex offender, with convictions dating back to 2002. On 1 November 2019, he appeared at Isle of Wight Crown Court where he was sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to comply with the conditions of the Sex Offenders Register.

The breach involved Wilton creating and using an online profile under the pseudonym 'falcon1' on the encrypted messaging application Wickr Me, without informing the authorities as required by law. Police from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary discovered this violation during their monitoring efforts. On 2 October 2019, officers arrested Wilton at his home on St Johns Wood Road. During the arrest, he refused to provide the password to access the app, further complicating the investigation.

PC Michelle Walton, the investigating officer, commented on the case, stating: 'Wilton is a repeat child sex offender with a history dating back to 2002. He had absolutely no regard for what he was required to do, by law, so we could ensure that he would not continue to offend and that children were protected. We simply do not tolerate this, and I am pleased that today’s jail sentence reflects this.' The sentencing underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing register requirements to safeguard the public, particularly children, from known sex offenders.

This case was reported by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on their official website, highlighting the importance of compliance with legal obligations post-conviction for sexual offences.
