Full Description

Barry John Hopcutt, 60, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, who was already serving a seven-year sentence for abusing young girls, has been given an additional two-year consecutive term after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 on a boat off the Anglesey coast more than a decade ago. The unanimous jury verdict came after a three-day trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Judge David Hale noted that Hopcutt fought the case without remorse and was not entitled to credit for a guilty plea. The abuse occurred while Hopcutt befriended families holidaying at an Anglesey caravan park. A statement from the now-adult victim was summarised in court by prosecutor Elen Owen.

Investigated by North Wales Police, this conviction adds to Hopcutt's existing sentence for similar offences, demonstrating ongoing accountability for serial sexual predators.
