Offence Summary

Convicted of sexual assault and attempted rape after attacking a woman in Hull following a night out.

Full Description

Qudus Ajeyemi, 27, was convicted at Hull Crown Court of sexual assault and attempted rape after attacking a woman in Hull following a night out.

The court heard that Ajeyemi, nicknamed Spartan, and the woman had been out together at a party and club in Hull. After returning to a house, the woman went upstairs to sleep. Ajeyemi followed her and began touching her intimately despite her protests. She told him "I'm not here for that" and "Stop. Don't touch me," but he ignored her and forcibly pulled off her underwear before attempting to rape her. She managed to push him away, grabbed her underwear, and ran downstairs.

Ajeyemi later confessed during a video call with the victim, admitting "I admit everything that happened. Everything. I admit it. I am wrong. I did something that was very wrong." He also sent her text messages apologising and asking for forgiveness. The victim initially delayed reporting the incident because Ajeyemi was an international student on a visa, but later came forward to prevent him from harming others.

Ajeyemi denied the charges but was convicted by a jury on a majority verdict of 10 to two for attempted rape after more than eight hours of deliberations. He was unanimously convicted of sexual assault. He had no previous convictions and was remanded in custody after the verdicts to await sentence. The case was prosecuted by Charlotte Baines and defended by Rachel Scott.
