Offence Summary

Callum Maycock approached a schoolgirl near Foord Road in Folkestone, made inappropriate comments, and touched her inappropriately before she escaped and reported the incident to police.

Full Description

On the morning of 27 June 2024, 21-year-old Callum Maycock, formerly of Foord Road South in Folkestone, committed a sexual assault on a schoolgirl near Foord Road. According to reports from Kent Police and court proceedings at Canterbury Crown Court, Maycock approached the victim and made inappropriate comments before touching her in an inappropriate manner. The schoolgirl managed to escape the situation and promptly reported the incident to the authorities, triggering an immediate police investigation.

The following day, Swift Police Action Officers patrolling the area identified Maycock based on the victim's description. He was arrested just 24 hours after the offence and later admitted to the charge of sexual assault during legal proceedings. This swift response by Kent Police underscores their commitment to protecting women and girls in the community.

On Friday, 15 November 2024, at Canterbury Crown Court, Maycock was sentenced to two years in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a 10-year restraining order to safeguard the public from potential future harm. Detective Sergeant David Hinwood of Kent Police commended the victim's courage, stating: "Protecting women and girls is an absolute priority for Kent Police, and we will relentlessly pursue anyone who poses them harm. The quick actions of police following this troubling incident saw the offender swiftly identified, arrested, and brought to justice." He also praised the victim and her family for their cooperation during the investigation, adding: "I hope the court orders imposed as part of this sentence protect the public in the future."

This case highlights Kent Police's ongoing efforts to combat violence against women and girls, including sexual offences, as part of their broader strategy outlined on their official website. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of immediate reporting and rapid police action in addressing such crimes.
