Offence Summary

Ahdel Ali was one of the ringleaders of a grooming gang in Telford that targeted and sexually exploited girls as young as 13, leading to his imprisonment for serious sexual offences.

Full Description

Ahdel Ali, identified as one of the two ringleaders of a notorious grooming gang in Telford, Shropshire, was convicted for orchestrating the sexual exploitation of vulnerable young girls. The gang preyed on girls as young as 13, subjecting them to horrific abuse over an extended period. Ali's actions were part of a larger pattern of grooming and sexual offences that devastated the lives of multiple victims in the Telford area.

In 2012, following a thorough investigation by West Mercia Police, Ali was found guilty at court for his role in these child sex offences. He received a 26-year extended sentence, comprising 18 years of immediate custody and an additional eight years on licence. This sentencing reflected the severity of the crimes, which involved grooming, sexual assault, and exploitation, causing lifelong trauma to the victims.

After serving eight years, Ali was released from prison in 2020. However, he was recalled to custody the following year after breaching his bail conditions. As of last month, the Parole Board confirmed that Ali has been referred for a hearing scheduled for March, potentially allowing his release within months. This development has sparked significant concern among local authorities and the public.

Telford & Wrekin councillors are set to support a motion proposed by Councillor Stephen Bentley, urging the Justice Secretary, David Lammy, to intervene and oppose Ali's potential early release. The motion states: 'This Council resolves to write to the Justice Secretary to request that he intervene and strongly oppose the potential early release on parole of Ahdel Ali. Such an early release is not commensurate with the lifetime fears, damage and traumatic memories inflicted on his victims.' The motion will be seconded by Councillor Nigel Dugmore at the full council meeting on Thursday, November 13. Source: Shropshire Star, published 11 November 2025.
