Offence Summary

Gordon Phillips was jailed for possessing and distributing thousands of indecent images of children, along with extreme pornography including animal abuse. He shared his home and devices containing the illicit material with his partner Scott Topley.

Full Description

A couple from Heanor, Derbyshire, were sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered their involvement in the creation and distribution of thousands of indecent images of children. Scott Topley, aged 46, and his partner Gordon Phillips, aged 41, resided together at an address on Fall Road. Their criminal activities came to light following an investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary, which revealed a disturbing collection of child sexual abuse material on their devices.

The investigation began when Topley was identified in a video recovered from a mobile phone seized in an unrelated police operation by another force. The footage depicted Topley performing a sex act while viewing indecent images of children. This led to a search of their home on Fall Road, Heanor, where electronic devices belonging to both men were confiscated. Analysis of Phillips' device uncovered more than a thousand images related to child sexual abuse, alongside material depicting extreme pornography and the sexual abuse of their pet dog.

Both men were arrested and charged on 28 May 2025 with multiple offences, including making indecent images of children, distributing indecent images of children, possessing prohibited images of children, and possessing extreme pornographic images involving sex with an animal. They admitted to the charges during a hearing on 24 July 2025. Sentencing occurred at Nottingham Crown Court on 29 January 2026, where Judge [name not specified] imposed custodial sentences on each of them.

  • Topley and Phillips were each sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison.
  • They received fifteen-year Sexual Harm Prevention Orders.
  • Both were required to register with the police indefinitely as sex offenders.

PC Michelle Azizi, the officer in the case from Derbyshire Constabulary, commented on the severity of their actions: "Together, Scott Topley and Gordon Phillips relished in their criminality. They took part in harmful online activities, viewing and sharing child and animal sexual abuse material with other like-minded individuals. The custodial sentence imposed on them reflects the severe gravity and abhorrent nature of their behaviour." This case underscores the ongoing efforts by UK police forces to combat online child exploitation, with Derbyshire Constabulary playing a key role in identifying and prosecuting such offenders.
