Full Description

John Keevil, a 52-year-old man from New Road, Landford, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to 22 counts of sexual offences against four children. The offences occurred in Salisbury, Wiltshire, between 1997 and 2010, targeting victims who were aged between nine and 17 at the time. The victims, now all adult men living in Hampshire, demonstrated remarkable bravery by coming forward years after the abuse, enabling authorities to bring Keevil to justice.

The case was led by Hampshire Constabulary, with assistance from Wiltshire Police. Keevil appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday, April 25, 2016, where he formally entered his guilty pleas. The judge imposed the 14-year custodial sentence, reflecting the severity and duration of the horrific crimes committed over more than a decade.

Detective Inspector John McGonigle of Hampshire Constabulary commended the victims' courage in a statement following the sentencing. 'This was a Hampshire Constabulary lead investigation with assistance from Wiltshire Police. I would like to commend the victims in this investigation for the bravery and courage they have shown in coming forward after living with the horror of these attacks for many years. The trust they have invested in Hampshire Constabulary has meant we have been able to ensure that Keevil was finally held to account for these despicable crimes. I hope the result here today goes some way to giving them closure.' The investigation highlighted the importance of victim support in prosecuting historical sexual abuse cases.

The offences involved multiple instances of sexual abuse against the four young boys, underscoring Keevil's predatory behaviour during the period from 1997 to 2010. This case serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of child sex offences and the commitment of UK police forces to pursue justice, no matter how much time has passed.
