Full Description

Christopher Norris, 38, from Wight Drive in Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk, appeared at Norwich Crown Court where he was sentenced for engaging in attempted sexual communication with children. Norris had pleaded guilty to two counts of this offence, which took place in Great Yarmouth in August 2024 and between 14 and 19 September of the previous year.

The court heard that Norris, already on bail for the first offence, initiated online chats with two accounts he believed belonged to girls aged 13 and 14. Unbeknownst to him, these were decoy accounts operated by undercover operatives posing as young girls. During these conversations, Norris sought topless pictures of the girls for his sexual gratification and attempted to pay them for the images.

Judge Alice Robinson imposed a sentence of nine months' imprisonment but suspended the jail term for 18 months. In addition to the suspended sentence, Norris was ordered to complete 25 days of rehabilitation activities and 300 hours of unpaid work. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years. The court further ordered the destruction of a seized samurai sword in Norris's possession.

This case highlights the efforts of undercover operations in combating online sexual exploitation of children in the UK. The offences occurred within Norfolk, under the jurisdiction of Norfolk Constabulary, and were reported by the Eastern Daily Press on 20 February, with the sentencing taking place at Norwich Crown Court.
