Offence Summary

Christopher Pittar exposed himself to commuters outside Derby railway station by pulling down his trousers and shouting to attract attention, and later repeated the act in custody. He was jailed for seven months and placed on the sex offenders register.

Full Description

On 26 February 2026, just before 7pm, Christopher Pittar, a 44-year-old man from Princip Street in Birmingham, committed an act of exposure outside Derby railway station in Derbyshire, England.

Pittar lay down on the ground, lifted his jacket, and pulled down his trousers to expose himself to passing commuters. He then shouted loudly to draw further attention to his indecent behaviour. A woman who witnessed the incident quickly walked away and reported it to a patrolling British Transport Police officer nearby, leading to Pittar's immediate arrest.

While in custody, Pittar repeated his offensive actions by exposing himself a second time to police officers and staff at the station. This demonstrated a lack of remorse for his conduct, as later noted by authorities.

Pittar was brought before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 18 March 2026. He was found guilty of one count of exposure and pleaded guilty to a count of indecent behaviour in a police station. The court sentenced him to seven months' imprisonment. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for seven years and received a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The SHPO prohibits him from entering any railway station in the UK without a valid ticket or legitimate reason, and from undoing, loosening, or removing clothing or touching himself in stations or on trains. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

British Transport Police Detective Sergeant Nick Tatlow commented on the case, stating: "Pittar showed no remorse for his senseless behaviour, even repeating his actions while in custody. He targeted a woman with his disgusting actions, and I am thankful to her for reporting the incident so we could bring Pittar before the courts and now behind bars." Tatlow urged witnesses of sexual offences on the rail network to report them via officers or by texting 61016, emphasising the force's commitment to prosecuting such offenders.

The incident was reported by Derbyshire Live, highlighting ongoing concerns about public safety at transport hubs in the region.
