Full Description

William David Darbyshire, 52, originally from Gwalchmai, Anglesey but residing in Skegness at the time of sentencing, was jailed for four years at Caernarfon Crown Court for sexually abusing a girl starting from when she was very young, up to around age 14. The abuse formed part of a series of separate but sequential acts by three men against the same victim.

The judge highlighted that Darbyshire had abused the girl from a very young age and threatened her to silence her from telling her father. Darbyshire denied all allegations of indecent assault during police questioning following the victim's 2012 report. Prosecutor Andrew Green noted the profound impact on the victim, who was robbed of her innocence and suffered lasting confusion in relationships.

  • Darbyshire was a teenager at the time of the offences and had committed non-sexual offences since.
  • Barrister Anna Pope requested consideration of his youth at the time and the passage of time.

North Wales Police arrested Darbyshire after the victim's videotaped interview in December 2012 brought the historic abuses to light. He is required to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely after serving his sentence.
