Offence Summary

Alexandra Walker was charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child in relation to the death of two-year-old Isabelle Rose Welsh in Thornaby.

Full Description

Two individuals from Thornaby appeared in Teesside Crown Court charged in connection with the tragic death of two-year-old Isabelle Rose Welsh. Alexandra Walker, aged 25, faced charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. The incident came to light when Cleveland Police were called to an address on Hartington Close in Thornaby on Saturday, 13 September 2024, following concerns for the welfare of a child.

Emergency services responded promptly at 4:20pm, transporting the toddler to hospital, where she sadly passed away. Crime scene investigators were observed working at the property over the weekend, with floral tributes later placed outside the house in remembrance. Walker, residing on Hartington Close, appeared in court via video link from Holme House Prison. She was not required to enter a plea at this initial hearing.

Judge Jonathan Carroll remanded Walker in custody, adjourning the case until next month for a further hearing where pleas could be entered. A provisional trial date was set for 22 June 2025. The family of Isabelle released a heartfelt statement: “Rest in peace Isabelle, fly high little girl. Forever two.” Her father, Josh Welsh, shared a tribute, saying, “Shine bright baby girl, I love you,” alongside a photo of his daughter.

Harrison Simpson, 21, was also charged with rape, murder, and causing or allowing the death of a child in the same case. He appeared via video link from HMP New Hall in Wakefield. The allegations centre on the unexplained injuries sustained by Isabelle, including a fractured skull, as described by detectives as 'unforgivable' actions. Cleveland Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
