Full Description

In a case that highlighted persistent stalking and sexual misconduct, Kieran Dorian, a 20-year-old from Broughty Ferry in Dundee, Scotland, was sentenced at Dundee Sheriff Court for a series of offences spanning several years. Dorian's actions began as early as October 2011 and continued until May 2015, during which he became obsessively fixated on four women he knew from his school days in Dundee. He bombarded them with messages on social media, creating a pattern of harassment that caused significant distress to his victims.

The offences escalated in severity. In one incident, Dorian threatened to rape a female police officer, an act that underscored the threatening nature of his behaviour. Separately, he spat blood at the officer's feet following sexually offensive remarks directed towards her. Dorian also admitted to assault and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner. Further charges included making lewd sexual comments to two 13-year-old girls while in a queue at a McDonald's restaurant in Dundee on 30 July, before proceeding to sexually assault one of the 13-year-old girls on the same date. These admissions painted a picture of escalating unacceptable conduct involving sexual elements.

At the sentencing hearing, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael addressed Dorian directly, stating: 'This kind of conduct is unacceptable and is firmly within the custodial range of sentences.' However, considering the circumstances and the time Dorian had already spent in custody, the sheriff opted for a non-custodial disposal. Dorian was placed under three years' supervision, ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, and added to the sex offenders register for three years. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order was imposed for five years, imposing conditions on his conduct, alongside a non-harassment order barring him from contacting his stalking victims for five years.

Dorian's defence solicitor, Douglas McConnell, noted in court: 'He wants to avoid going to custody and he will have to make any order placed on him work.' The sheriff warned Dorian that any breach of the orders would likely result in imprisonment. This case, reported by the BBC on 2 December 2016, serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of stalking and sexual offences, with the court's measures aimed at preventing further harm while allowing for rehabilitation.
