Offence Summary

Timothy Trille engaged in sexual communication with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl, sending lewd messages and requesting nude photos. He received a 24-month community order and was placed on the sex offender register for five years.

Full Description

Timothy Trille, residing in Grove Hill, Highworth, was convicted of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child following a guilty plea at Swindon Magistrates' Court on April 30, 2024. The case came to light through the efforts of a paedophile hunters' group, which operated a decoy account pretending to be a 13-year-old girl named 'Olivia'. Between April 24 and April 29, 2024, Trille, using the alias 'bad dad', initiated contact and exchanged messages with the decoy.

The court heard detailed accounts of Trille's communications, which included sending an explicit image of himself and probing into the decoy's supposed sexual experiences. He persistently attempted to persuade 'Olivia' to send nude photos of herself, demonstrating clear intent to engage in inappropriate and illegal interactions with a minor. This behaviour was described in court as predatory, highlighting the dangers posed by online grooming attempts.

Trille appeared for sentencing at Swindon Crown Court on July 17, 2024. Judge [not named in article] imposed a 24-month community order, which included 100 hours of unpaid work and up to 40 rehabilitation activity days with the probation service. Additionally, Trille was required to register as a sex offender for five years, and a sexual harm prevention order was made for the same duration to restrict his future conduct and protect potential victims. The sentencing reflects the seriousness of the offence, even though no actual child was involved, as the decoy operation effectively exposed his intentions.

This case underscores the role of community vigilance groups in combating child sexual exploitation online. According to reports from Swindon Crown Court proceedings, as covered by the Swindon Advertiser, such interventions are crucial in preventing real harm to children. No direct quotes from Trille or the judge were provided in the coverage, but the court's emphasis was on rehabilitation alongside punitive measures to deter future offences.
