Full Description

A man from West Chadsmoor has been imprisoned for 15 years following his conviction for serious sexual offences against a woman in Cannock. Anthony Lomas, aged 59, was found guilty of two counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault. The offences occurred prior to 2021, when the survivor courageously reported the abuse to Staffordshire Police.

The investigation was led by officers from the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) unit, who provided comprehensive support to the survivor and meticulously gathered evidence against Lomas. Following his arrest in 2021, Lomas was brought to trial at Derbyshire Crown Court, where he was sentenced on 5 January 2026. In addition to the custodial sentence, Lomas has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and issued with a restraining order prohibiting contact with the survivor.

Detective Constable Jason Mactaggart, from the RASSO unit, commented on the case: "Lomas inflicted a campaign of abuse on the survivor in this case and has been rightfully punished for his crimes." Staffordshire Police emphasised their commitment to supporting survivors through the criminal justice process, highlighting the tireless efforts that resulted in this outcome. The case underscores the importance of reporting such crimes, as the evidence compiled by the police led to a successful prosecution.
