Full Description

Alexi Stelio Jerome, a 27-year-old man from Priory Close in Wembley, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for a series of sexual offences committed on the London Underground. The incidents, which caused severe distress to his victims, involved repeated acts of indecent exposure and one count of sexual assault. Jerome targeted young women travelling on the Tube, often at night, and was caught after British Transport Police used CCTV footage to identify him.

The offences occurred across various stations on the Piccadilly Line, including Wembley Park, Sudbury Town, and Elephant and Castle. One particularly distressing incident took place on Tuesday, November 17, when Jerome approached a woman at Wembley Park station, exposed himself, and grabbed her. The victim managed to push him away, after which he fled the train at Neasden station. This event was part of a broader pattern of behaviour where Jerome would expose himself, make lewd gestures, and then escape when challenged by his victims.

Jerome pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court to one count of sexual assault, one count of outraging public decency, and five counts of indecent exposure. In addition to his 12-month custodial sentence handed down on July 23, he was banned from travelling on the London Underground for five years and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for 10 years. The court recognised the severity of his actions and their impact on public safety on the transport network.

DC Claire Sheals, from the British Transport Police (BTP) Indecency Unit, commented on the case: “Jerome repeatedly exposed himself to young women travelling on the Tube, with most of his offences occurring at night. He would expose himself, often making lewd gestures to his victims before fleeing when he was challenged.” She further noted: “While crimes like this are rare on the Tube, Jerome is responsible for causing his victims severe distress and I welcome his jail sentence and ban from the network.”

Howard Collins, chief operating officer of London Underground, also addressed the incident: “Jerome’s actions were offensive and totally unacceptable and we are glad the CCTV on our network helped the British Transport Police to track him down.” The case was reported by the Harrow Times on 9th August 2010, highlighting the role of surveillance in preventing and solving such crimes on public transport.
