Offence Summary

Bhavesh Voralia, a registered sex offender, sexually assaulted a woman by grabbing her breasts and attempting to kiss her in a block of flats in Peterborough, and failed to comply with Sex Offenders Register notification requirements by travelling abroad without notifying police.

Full Description

Bhavesh Voralia, a 50-year-old man from Peterborough, has been jailed for one year following a sexual assault and breaches of the Sex Offenders Register. The incident occurred on 3 September 2021, at approximately 9am, in a block of flats located on The Drive in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

According to details reported by Cambridgeshire Live, Voralia approached the victim and grabbed her breasts before smacking her and attempting to kiss her, while declaring that he loved her. The terrified woman managed to escape and return to her flat. This assault took place despite Voralia being a registered sex offender, having previously been convicted of another sexual assault at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 13 June 2022.

Following his prior conviction, Voralia was required to adhere to notification requirements under the Sex Offenders Register. However, just three days after the 2022 conviction, on 16 June 2022, he flew from Heathrow Airport to Ahmedabad in India without notifying police of his travel plans at least seven days in advance, nor providing details such as his name, date of birth, and home address within three days as mandated. These failures constituted two counts of breaching the register's requirements.

On 8 August 2023, at Cambridge Crown Court, Voralia was found guilty of sexual assault and the two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements. He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. PC Mohsin Raja of Cambridgeshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: “This was a despicable assault by Voralia and I would like to thank the victim for her cooperation with us in seeking a prosecution. In failing to adhere to his notification requirements, he has shown a blatant disregard for the law.” The case underscores the importance of compliance with sex offender registration to protect the public.
