Full Description

Christopher Snow, a 25-year-old former West Yorkshire Police officer from Moor Road, Headingley, Leeds, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for a series of serious sexual offences against children. Snow admitted to eight counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and ten charges of making indecent images of children, all involving girls aged 12, 13, and 14. The court heard that Snow targeted his victims by posing as a 15-year-old boy in internet chatrooms, employing devious grooming tactics to exploit these vulnerable young girls.

The investigation into Snow's activities began in September 2009 as part of a broader police probe covering 4,500 computer users. During the search of his property, authorities discovered 642 indecent images of children, highlighting the extent of his criminal behaviour. Judge Christopher Batty at Leeds Crown Court described Snow's actions as 'devious in his grooming of teenage girls', emphasising the betrayal of trust involved, particularly given Snow's background in law enforcement.

Snow's criminal history dates back further; he joined West Yorkshire Police in 2004 but resigned in 2006 after pleading guilty to earlier offences of making and possessing indecent images of children, committed between October 2004 and December 2005. For those prior convictions, he received a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, along with 200 hours of unpaid work and a sexual offences prevention order. Tragically, Snow breached this order, resulting in an additional two months added to his current sentence.

Detective Constable Lisa Wright, one of the investigating officers, commented after the hearing: 'We welcome today's sentence which we feel accurately reflects the severity of the crime. Christopher Snow will no longer be in a position to abuse the trust that was placed in him by these vulnerable young girls who believed he was a teenage boy.' The case underscores the dangers of online predation and the importance of parental supervision in children's internet use.
