Full Description

A registered sex offender from Ammanford has been jailed after a series of vehicle break-ins and other offences in the west Wales community. Anthony Jones, 43, of no fixed abode, appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on charges related to crimes committed in February and November of the previous year.

The court heard that on 15 February, Jones was accused of criminal damage by scratching a woman’s car in Ammanford. He then stole AirPods, a bracelet, charms, and a drill from the same vehicle. The following day, 16 February, he targeted another car, taking clothing. On 17 February, he broke into a third car, stealing gym equipment and a set of keys. Additionally, on that date, Jones was found in possession of a bladed article—four pairs of scissors—without good reason or lawful authority in a public place in Ammanford.

  • Jones also breached the notification requirements of the sex offender register by failing to attend a designated police station on 14 February to update his status as being of no fixed abode.
  • In a separate incident, on 23 November the previous year, he shoplifted four beef joints worth £79.20 from the Co-op store in Ammanford.

Jones pleaded guilty to all seven charges during his court appearance. The case returned to Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on 12 March, where he was sentenced to a total of six months in prison. He was further ordered to pay £300 in compensation to the affected car owners and £79.20 to Co-op, along with £85 in costs.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan James of Dyfed-Powys Police commented on the case: “I’d like to thank the Ammanford community for their vigilance and proactivity in reporting these offences. Crimes of this nature have a significant impact on the victims and wider community, and I’m pleased that our investigation has led to this individual being remanded into custody.” The offences were investigated by Dyfed-Powys Police, highlighting the impact of such crimes on local residents.
