Offence Summary

Zsolt Szaltoni, a teenager, was found guilty of one count of rape and sentenced as part of a gang involved in grooming and sexually abusing underage girls in Oxfordshire.

Full Description

Zsolt Szaltoni, the youngest member of a gang of six, was convicted at Oxford Crown Court for sexual offences against underage girls in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The group, consisting of five men and a teenager, groomed seven victims aged 13 to 15 via social media parties, leading to abuse in cars, wooded areas, or the offenders' homes. The Kingfisher multi-agency initiative uncovered the systematic exploitation.

Szaltoni, 18, from Portway, was found guilty of one count of rape. The court learned of the gang's premeditated actions, which isolated and terrified the girls. One 14-year-old victim described her experience: 'I got in the car because the others left and I was on my own... I didn't know what to do, but they'd planned it beforehand.' She detailed the enduring effects: 'The abuse continued... I did sex work without even knowing... I was brainwashed.'

The trial concluded with guilty verdicts in March 2015, and Szaltoni was subsequently sentenced to three years in a young offenders institution. The victim voiced support for intervention efforts, stating, 'I just think I'm so lucky because there are lots of other girls who aren't lucky,' and aimed to join the Kingfisher team for closure. This BBC article on the sentencing emphasises the gravity of youth involvement in such crimes and the necessity of protective measures against grooming.
