Offence Summary

Syed Shahreear Ahmed, a teacher from Barkingside, groomed and sexually assaulted six girls aged 13 to 15 by posing as a teenage boy online between 2019 and 2023.

Full Description

Syed Shahreear Ahmed, a 37-year-old teacher residing on Mossford Lane in Barkingside, east London, was jailed for 15 years after a series of online grooming and sexual assaults on young girls.

From 2019 to 2023, Ahmed pretended to be a teenage boy on social media platforms, including the app Wizz, to target six girls aged between 13 and 15. He created and sent indecent images to them before arranging face-to-face meetings where he carried out serious sexual assaults, according to details from Kent Police.

The case came to light in May 2023 when a 15-year-old girl reported being approached by Ahmed on 19 March 2023. Shortly after, on 2 May 2023, a 14-year-old girl met him following online contact; he attempted to assault her in his car by touching her thigh, but she escaped by jumping out while the vehicle was moving.

Police identified four additional victims and approached them directly. Ahmed was found guilty at court of three counts of rape of a child, three counts of sexual assault, one count of attempted sexual assault, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and five counts of meeting a child for sexual grooming. He had already pleaded guilty to one count of taking an indecent image of a child and three counts of making indecent images of children. Sentencing occurred in September 2025 at a crown court.
