Offence Summary

Paul was a member of the 'Beastie House' paedophile gang in Glasgow, involved in the sexual abuse and torture of children under 13 for seven years, and was jailed for up to 20 years.

Full Description

Paul, part of a seven-strong paedophile ring in Glasgow, participated in the systematic rape, sexual abuse, and torture of three children under 13 at the 'Beastie House', a drug-riddled flat in Townhead, over the period from 2012 to 2019. Details emerging from Police Scotland's inquiry, as reported in the Daily Record, illustrate the catastrophic institutional failures at play.

The group of addicts took advantage of the children's precarious situation in a troubled locale, where they were observed desperately seeking sustenance. A witness described to Sky News: 'The children were always lingering around adults to try and get food... It was heartbreaking. The system has failed.' Notably, one child used head lice to ward off assaults, as the witness recalled: 'Why won't you do your hair... She left them on her head to try and keep those beasts away from her.' By 2018, the abuse was visibly escalating, yet child protection entities responded inadequately.

  • The offences included grievous child sex crimes and brutality within the squalid setting.
  • Community sightings of the victims' neglect failed to trigger timely intervention.

The offenders were convicted in November 2023 and received sentences in January 2025 amounting to 94 years collectively, with up to 20 years each. The Scottish Government recognised the systemic let-down, commissioning a 'Case Learning Review' from the Glasgow Child Protection Committee. Tam Baillie observed: 'Learning reviews are important. The challenge... is how effectively we implement the recommendations.'

Minister Natalie Don-Innes committed to action: 'We would want it as soon as possible... Child safeguarding is always a priority.' The council affirmed: 'This is a uniquely complicated case... There is a consensus these children were failed.' The investigation continues to unpack the lapses that permitted this major paedophile network to operate unchecked.
