Full Description

William Adesanya, a 25-year-old man from Penarth, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison at Newport Crown Court for committing serious sexual offences against a victim in Cardiff. The case, reported by Wales247 on 10 November 2025, highlights the brutal nature of the crimes, which involved Adesanya attending the victim's home under the pretence of using her services as an escort.

According to court proceedings, Adesanya strangled the victim until she lost consciousness, then sexually assaulted and raped her on multiple occasions. He also filmed the acts using his mobile phone, adding to the severity of the offences. Adesanya was convicted on three counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of intentional strangulation. In addition to the custodial sentence, he received an extended licence period of six years, an indefinite restraining order, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibits contact with sex workers.

The sentencing took place on 3 November 2025 at Newport Crown Court. Following the hearing, the victim expressed her gratitude to the authorities in a statement to South Wales Police: "I would like to say thank you to DC Nick Young and to everyone else that has helped and supported me through the process of the trial and sentencing of my attacker. I am so incredibly grateful for him and all that he has done, he has shown me an incredible amount of patience, kindness, and compassion throughout this entire traumatic process. This has been a long, emotional journey and I would not have been able to do it without the support of everyone involved. Thank you all so very much. From the bottom of my heart."

Detective Constable Nick Young, the officer in the case, commended the victim's bravery: "The victim demonstrated exceptional bravery throughout the process and hopes that her story can encourage others who are suffering to report matters. South Wales Police will be relentless in our pursuit of offenders and those who target the vulnerable in our communities." The case underscores the commitment of South Wales Police in tackling sexual violence and protecting vulnerable individuals.
