Offence Summary

Paul Adam Wood, a convicted sex offender from Haverfordwest, was jailed for breaching a sexual offences prevention order and possessing indecent images of children, including material depicting child rape and extreme pornography.

Full Description

A sex offender from Haverfordwest, Paul Adam Wood, aged 50, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after breaching a court order in 32 different ways and being found in possession of child abuse images. Wood had a prior conviction in 2003 for indecently assaulting a female, which led to his imprisonment at that time.

In 2009, Dyfed-Powys Police successfully applied for a sexual offences prevention order against Wood, which was granted by Haverfordwest magistrates without a time limit. The order prohibited Wood from using any computer capable of accessing the internet or possessing a camera. Despite this, police became aware that Wood had enrolled in a college course and was provided with a laptop for his studies.

Officers conducted raids on Wood's home and another property, where they discovered computers, memory sticks, mobile telephones, and cameras containing a catalogue of indecent images. Kevin Jones, prosecuting at Swansea Crown Court, detailed how the seized devices revealed evidence of Wood's violations. Wood admitted to twice breaching the sexual offences prevention order, as well as 30 further offences related to making and possessing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography.

Among the materials found was a film depicting a child being raped, alongside extreme pornography including photographs of sex with animals. During the investigation, Wood voluntarily walked into a police station, stating he was homeless and informing officers of the location of additional downloaded pornography.

Wood's barrister, Chris James, addressed the court, stating: 'He needs help. His family has turned against him.' Judge Peter Heywood imposed a sentence of 14 months' imprisonment and issued a ban preventing Wood from ever working with children or vulnerable adults. The case was heard at Swansea Crown Court, with prosecution led by Dyfed-Powys Police.
