Offence Summary

Llion Evans admitted to multiple child sexual offences, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child he believed to be a girl named Seren during an undercover police sting, as well as distributing and making indecent images of children.

Full Description

A 41-year-old man from Dinas Powys has pleaded guilty to a series of serious sexual offences against children, following an undercover police operation and investigations into his possession of illegal images.

Llion Evans, residing on Elm Grove Road in Dinas Powys, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court where he admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. The 'child' was in fact an undercover police officer posing as a girl named Seren, in a sting operation designed to catch potential predators. This incident formed part of a broader pattern of offending that spanned from New Year's Day 2020 to 7 October 2023.

In addition to the communication offence, Evans pleaded guilty to distributing indecent photographs of children, making indecent images of children, possession of a prohibited image of a child, and possession of extreme pornographic images portraying rape. These admissions highlight the severity and extent of his involvement in child sexual exploitation material.

The court ordered a pre-sentence report, and Evans is scheduled to be sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on 20 November 2024. Upon sentencing, he will be required to register as a sex offender. He was granted conditional bail in the meantime. Jon Lewis represented the defendant, while Jeanine Robinson appeared for the prosecution.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by South Wales Police to combat child sexual offences through proactive operations and digital forensics. The offences came to light through investigative work targeting online predators and illegal image distribution networks.
