Offence Summary

Ryan Walsh, a registered sex offender, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to sexual communication with a 13-year-old child, making indecent photographs of a child, and breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offenders register requirements.

Full Description

Ryan Walsh, a 39-year-old registered sex offender from Huddersfield, was swiftly arrested and sentenced following the discovery of evidence of child sexual offences on his electronic devices. As part of routine monitoring conducted by the Kirklees Public Protection Unit of West Yorkshire Police, officers visited Walsh at his home on Meltham Road on 20 January 2026. During the visit, a search of his devices uncovered incriminating material, leading to his immediate arrest.

Walsh was charged the same day and appeared in court the following day. At Leeds Crown Court on 19 February 2026, he pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including sexual communication with a 13-year-old child and two counts of making indecent photographs of a child. He also admitted to breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and failing to comply with the requirements of the sex offenders register.

The court sentenced Walsh to three years' imprisonment, highlighting the seriousness of his actions in targeting a vulnerable child online and disregarding protective measures designed to prevent reoffending. PC Richard Thorp of the Kirklees Public Protection Unit stated, "We welcome the conviction of Ryan Walsh at Leeds Crown Court yesterday, and hope it demonstrates that committing offences online and breaching orders, put in place to protect the public can only have one outcome." He further emphasised the unit's commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals from such harm.

DI Angela Francome added, "Walsh’s swift sentencing within just over a month of his initial arrest demonstrates how well inter agency public protection can work to monitor registered sex offenders, and then swiftly act if offending occurs." The case underscores the effectiveness of proactive policing in West Yorkshire, where ongoing surveillance of known offenders led to this rapid intervention. West Yorkshire Police continue to encourage reports of suspected sexual offending through their official channels.
