John Peter Noble, a 36-year-old man from Ripon, North Yorkshire, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for planning to sexually abuse a four-year-old girl. The case came to light through an undercover operation conducted by North Yorkshire Police, highlighting the force's efforts to combat online child sexual exploitation.

Noble was arrested on 30 April in Ripon after making arrangements to meet what he believed to be the family of his intended victim. According to North Yorkshire Police, there was no real-life child involved, and no actual children were placed in danger during the sting operation. The police emphasised that the operation was designed to identify and apprehend individuals intent on committing such crimes online.

At York Crown Court, Noble admitted to nine child sex offences in May. The court heard that he had previously been convicted of possessing indecent images of children and was charged with breaching the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Following his admissions, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. Additionally, Noble was placed on the sex offenders' register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring upon his release.

North Yorkshire Police stated in their official release: 'This successful operation demonstrates our commitment to protecting children from online predators.' The case underscores the importance of proactive policing in preventing potential harm, even in scenarios where no actual victim exists. Noble, residing on North Street in Ripon, will serve his sentence in a custodial facility.
