Full Description

David Nistor, a 26-year-old resident of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, was jailed for 15 years and eight months following his conviction on seven counts of rape. The case came to light in June 2025 when a brave victim reported to South Yorkshire Police that she had been assaulted by Nistor, detailing multiple prior instances of rape.

Upon receiving the report, South Yorkshire Police acted swiftly, arresting and charging Nistor on the same day. During his subsequent police interview, Nistor provided no comment to the questions posed to him and was remanded into custody. Initially, on 17 July 2025, he entered not guilty pleas to all charges at Sheffield Crown Court, which included the seven rape counts and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, on 21 November 2025, he changed his plea to guilty on the assault charge.

The trial proceeded on the rape charges, and on 16 January 2026, a jury at Sheffield Crown Court found Nistor guilty on all seven counts. The court heard evidence of the repeated sexual assaults committed against the victim, highlighting the severity and persistence of his offences. Nistor, of Heelis Street in Barnsley, showed no remorse during the proceedings.

Detective Constable Rosie Allott, the officer in charge of the investigation, commended the victim's courage in coming forward. She stated: 'The victim’s bravery in reporting Nistor’s disgusting crimes helped to ensure that justice was done. I am glad that Nistor has been jailed and will not be able to do further harm during his long years behind bars. Our officers acted quickly to arrest Nistor on the day that his offences were reported. I hope that this case encourages other victims of sexual offences to report to us.' The case underscores the importance of prompt reporting and the effective response by South Yorkshire Police in tackling serious sexual offences.

All victims of rape are granted automatic lifelong anonymity under UK law, and identifying them constitutes a criminal offence. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the consequences for perpetrators of such heinous crimes within the community.
