Offence Summary

Jahn Shahid Ghani, described as a 'sex addict', plied Girl A with up to 10 ecstasy tablets before sexually abusing her and another woman as part of the Rochdale grooming gang from 2002 to 2006.

Full Description

Jahn Shahid Ghani, 50, from Whitworth Road, Rochdale, the older brother of Mohammed Ghani, was convicted alongside four others for the sexual exploitation of two teenage girls, Girl A and Girl B, between 2002 and 2006. The abuse was exposed in 2015 when Girl A spoke out on a parenting course about being abused from age 12, passed between men, and blackmailed with videos after being given alcohol and drugs.

Court proceedings at Minshull Street Crown Court revealed Ghani's particularly depraved actions, where he was labelled a 'sex addict' for giving Girl A up to 10 ecstasy tablets at once before engaging in sexual activity with her and another woman. The grooming involved picking up the schoolgirls in uniforms and assaulting them in cars, parks, on Saddleworth Moor, and in Rochdale properties. Judge Tina Landale highlighted the 'appalling abuse' committed by the 'highly predatory' group.

Found guilty of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and four counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child, Ghani received a 20-year prison sentence. The investigation was conducted by Greater Manchester Police.
