Full Description

A 37-year-old man from Corwen, Ryan Williams, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following his conviction for attempting to rape a young girl in Wrexham. The case, which centred on a serious sexual offence against a child, was heard at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Williams, residing at Hendre in Corwen, stood trial at Caernarfon Crown Court in January 2026, where a jury found him guilty of the attempted rape charge. The incident occurred in Wrexham, involving a young girl who demonstrated remarkable courage by reporting the abuse to the police. This action not only led to Williams' conviction but also served to protect other potential victims from harm.

On Friday, 6 March 2026, Williams returned to Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing. The judge handed down an 11-year custodial sentence, accompanied by a four-year extended licence period. Additional protective measures included a 25-year sexual harm prevention order and lifelong notification requirements as a registered sex offender. A lifetime restraining order was also imposed to safeguard the victim from any further contact.

Detective Sergeant Keegans of North Wales Police commented on the case, stating: "At the centre of this case is a young girl and I commend her for her courage in reporting Williams to police, which has resulted in his conviction and no doubt protected other children from harm. Williams showed no remorse for his offending and instead, forced the victim to relive their trauma through a trial." Keegans further emphasised the police's commitment, adding: "I hope this case will encourage others who have been subject to sexual abuse to come forward and be reassured their evidence will be heard, whilst serving as a reminder to any sexual offender that they will face the consequences of their actions – no matter how and when sexual abuse occurred. Tackling violence against women and girls remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police."

The conviction underscores the ongoing efforts by North Wales Police to address child sex offences and sexual exploitation within the community. Williams' lack of remorse was noted during the proceedings, highlighting the traumatic impact on the victim who was compelled to testify.
