Offence Summary

Ryan Alden, a prolific sex offender from Leigh, Essex, was jailed for 14 years after pleading guilty to 32 charges involving the sexual exploitation of children, possession and distribution of indecent images, and voyeurism.

Full Description

Ryan Alden, a 36-year-old resident of Stonehill Road in Leigh, Essex, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on 16 March 2026 to a total of 20 years for a series of grave sexual offences against children and women. The case, investigated by Essex Police, began in December 2021 following intelligence that Alden had accessed indecent images of children. A search warrant executed at his home led to the seizure of electronic devices containing thousands of such images and videos, alongside evidence of online grooming activities.

Further examination revealed that Alden had used concealed cameras, including buttons fitted in his trousers, to film women and children without consent. The Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) reviewed extensive material, identifying over 5,000 Category A videos and nearly 1,700 images, as well as significant amounts in Categories B and C. Alden admitted during interview to owning the devices and using multiple online identities to communicate with children over a prolonged period, though he offered no comment to many questions.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised 32 charges against Alden, encompassing sexual activity with a child, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual communication with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, making and taking indecent photographs of children, distributing such material, possessing prohibited and extreme pornographic images, voyeurism, and upskirting. In June 2025, Alden appeared at Basildon Crown Court and pleaded guilty to all counts, being released on conditional bail pending sentencing.

Detective Constable Rob Guiney, the investigating officer, described the sentence as reflective of the gravity of Alden's offending, stating: 'He is a danger to children and women both in the digital world and in the community. He has abused and manipulated vulnerable children over several years.' Detective Inspector Emma Portfleet praised the team's dedication, noting: 'Their meticulous attention to detail, safeguarding, and compassionate support for everyone involved were instrumental in building a strong case.' Alden was required to serve 14 years in prison, followed by six years on licence, and will remain on the sex offenders register for life under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
