Full Description

A 67-year-old man from Gorleston, Norfolk, has pleaded guilty to serious sexual offences involving indecent images of children and extreme pornography, marking a breach of a previous court order designed to prevent such behaviour.

Kevin Thompson, residing on Exeter Road in Gorleston, appeared before magistrates at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on a date in late 2024. He faced three charges related to the making of indecent photographs and videos of children, specifically 44 Category A images, 37 Category B images, and 30 Category C images and videos. These offences were committed between 1 January 2024 and 30 April 2024. Additionally, Thompson admitted to possessing extreme pornographic images and videos depicting acts of intercourse with a live or dead unknown animal.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Hanlon outlined during the hearing that Thompson had been subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed by Norwich Crown Court on 31 January 2020. This order prohibited certain activities, including the use of social media chat sites without prior notification to the police. Investigations revealed that Thompson had breached this order, leading to the examination of his device, which uncovered the illicit material. 'The defendant was given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order by Norwich Crown Court on January 31, 2020,' Hanlon stated, highlighting the discovery of the images during the device inspection.

In mitigation, Rob New, representing Thompson, noted that the offences dated back to 2024 and emphasised that Mr Thompson's life has changed dramatically since then. Despite the guilty pleas, the magistrates determined that the severity of the case exceeded their sentencing powers. Consequently, Thompson was committed to Norwich Crown Court for sentencing, scheduled for on or after 6 April 2025. He was granted unconditional bail in the interim.

The case, reported by the Great Yarmouth Mercury, underscores ongoing efforts by Norfolk Constabulary to enforce sexual harm prevention measures and combat child sexual exploitation through digital means. Thompson was described in court proceedings as a 'pervert' in relation to his admitted possession of over a hundred indecent photographs of children.
