Offence Summary

Darrell Moore was convicted of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration after attacking a woman in a flat in Brighton following a night out.

Full Description

On 15 May 2022, Darrell Moore, a 33-year-old man from Albert Carr Gardens in Streatham, carried out a series of sexual assaults on a woman in Brighton. The incident occurred after the victim and Moore, who were part of the same group, had spent the evening at a beachfront nightclub. As the group moved to a friend's flat in the city, Moore targeted the woman, isolating her in a separate room where he committed the assaults.

Moore was charged with two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration. He denied all charges during the trial at Hove Crown Court, which commenced on 20 October 2025. However, on 24 October 2025, a jury found him guilty on all counts following the presentation of evidence detailing the distressing nature of the attack.

Detective Constable Elaine Welsh of Sussex Police commented on the case, stating, "It was a distressing case and [we] praise the victim’s bravery for helping bring Moore to justice. [The] verdict has helped remove this predator from our streets." The conviction underscores the ongoing efforts by Sussex Police to address sexual offences in the region, with the trial highlighting the importance of victim testimony in securing justice.

Sentencing for Moore is scheduled for 16 January 2026 at Hove Crown Court. The case was reported by Regency Radio and draws from official statements by Sussex Police, emphasising the severity of the offences committed in a social setting that turned violent.
