Offence Summary

Fred Florence, a predatory rapist, was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison for raping a victim and committing non-recent sexual assaults on two children, in addition to his existing sentence for grievous bodily harm.

Full Description

Fred Florence, aged 51 from Katherines Walk in Ledbury, was sentenced at Hereford Crown Court on Friday, 12 December 2025, for a series of serious sexual offences. The court heard that Florence had committed a rape and two counts of non-recent sexual assaults on child victims, demonstrating a predatory and dangerous nature. His Honour Judge Jackson described Florence as a 'predatory sex offender and self-centred bully who thought of his victims as less than human', highlighting the offender's appalling attitude and lack of remorse during the proceedings.

Prior to this sentencing, Florence was already serving a seven years and six months custodial term for a grievous bodily harm (GBH) assault committed in 2016, which left his victim with life-changing injuries. The new sentence of 13 years and six months for the rape was ordered to run consecutively after the GBH term, resulting in a total of 21 years imprisonment. Additionally, he received three years for each of the two sexual assault counts, to be served concurrently with the rape sentence. Florence must serve at least two-thirds of the combined sentences, making him ineligible for parole before 2039. Upon release, he will be subject to five years on licence due to his classification as a dangerous offender and must register on the sex offenders’ register for life.

The offences came to light after brave victims, who had been subjected to years of fear and intimidation by Florence, came forward to report the crimes. Detective Constable Sarah Carroll from West Mercia Police's Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET) commended the victims' courage, stating: “We are pleased that the judge has recognised the disgusting and evil nature of Florence’s sexual crimes which will never heal the pain of his victims but may hopefully allow them to start to move on with their lives now.” The police investigation revealed the non-recent nature of the sexual assaults, and authorities suspect there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward due to the level of intimidation involved. West Mercia Police urged anyone with information about further offences by Florence to contact Hereford CID via 101.

This case underscores the long-term impact of sexual exploitation and the importance of victim support in bringing perpetrators to justice. The sentencing reflects the severity of Florence's actions, ensuring public protection for many years.
