Full Description

A 39-year-old man from Wistaston, Cheshire, has been imprisoned for subjecting multiple women to distressing sexualised phone calls while they were at work. Alastair McMullan, residing at Bridge Close, targeted four women employed in a shop, a petrol station, a beauty salon, and as a dog walker, between December 2024 and March 2025. His actions involved making unsolicited calls to their workplaces, where he delivered lewd and obscene comments, repeatedly asking the women to visit him.

McMullan's harassment escalated when a male colleague of one victim attempted to intervene during a call. The offender directed vile remarks at the colleague and insisted on speaking to the woman, demonstrating alarming persistence that left the victims feeling unsafe in their workplaces and daily lives. The women reported feeling watched and targeted without knowing the caller's identity, which heightened their fear and disrupted their sense of security.

McMullan appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of harassment without violence, stalking, and sending offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing messages. On 27 March 2025, he was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed restraining orders against all five victims—four women and the intervening male colleague—and issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public.

Inspector Matt Chapman of Cheshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: 'McMullan put these four women in fear. They didn’t know who he was or why they had been targeted and they felt unsafe both in their workplace and in their daily life. He made them feel like he was watching them and was alarmingly persistent in his pursuit of the women. This type of warped behaviour caused them and their colleagues real concern for safety.' Chapman further emphasised the force's commitment to prosecuting such offenders, adding: 'Hopefully, knowing that he is now subject to restraining orders and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order should help them get back to living their lives as they did before he invaded their privacy and decency. It is never acceptable, and we will stop at nothing to convict those who target anyone in this malicious and perverted way.'

The case was reported by Nantwich News on 27 March 2025, highlighting the impact of McMullan's actions on the local community in Cheshire. Cheshire Constabulary investigated the complaints, leading to McMullan's arrest and subsequent conviction. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by UK police forces to address sexual harassment and protect vulnerable individuals in professional settings.
