Offence Summary

Ethan Wright, a dangerous child rapist from the Bradford district, was convicted of multiple sexual offences against two young victims and sentenced to an extended prison term due to his lack of remorse and ongoing risk to the public.

Full Description

Ethan Wright, a 21-year-old man from the Bradford district, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for a series of serious sexual offences committed against two young complainants. Following a trial in October, Wright was found guilty of repeatedly raping a boy and committing further rape offences against a girl. The court heard that an initial police investigation into the offences against the boy had concluded with no further action, but it was reopened after the discovery of the additional crimes against the girl.

During the sentencing hearing on Thursday, Recorder Abdul Iqbal KC detailed the profound and lasting impact of Wright's actions on his victims, whose identities remain protected by law. The judge emphasised Wright's complete lack of remorse, noting that he had contested the charges at trial and continued to deny any wrongdoing during interviews with the probation service. 'You contested these charges to trial and you have been convicted of them by a jury,' Recorder Iqbal told Wright. 'You have shown no remorse. You continued to deny any criminal offending to the probation service when you were interviewed by them.'

Recognising Wright as a dangerous offender who posed a significant risk to the public, Recorder Iqbal imposed an extended sentence to ensure protection for society. Wright received two years' imprisonment for the rape charges involving the young boy. For the offences against the girl, he was sentenced to an additional nine years in jail, followed by a four-year extended licence period. He must serve the initial two-year term concurrently before serving at least two-thirds of the nine-year term, with release only possible if deemed safe by the Parole Board.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Wright will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The judge acknowledged that no sentence could fully repair the damage caused, stating that the 'inevitable and substantial sentences of imprisonment could never repair or erase the damage that Wright had caused.' The case was investigated by West Yorkshire Police, and the proceedings took place at Bradford Crown Court in West Yorkshire, England.
