Jamie McCallum

Jamie McCallum, a 46-year-old man from Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court after pleading guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of distributing indecent images of children, and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

The court heard that Dyfed-Powys Police executed a search warrant at his home on Caeglas in the early hours of 3 October 2024. Several of his electronic devices were seized, and McCallum admitted that officers would find indecent images of children on his phone. An examination of the devices revealed his involvement in a Telegram network dedicated to sharing child sexual abuse material, with a "high volume" of images stored on his handset.

Prosecutor Hannah George detailed the horrific catalogue: McCallum possessed 331 Category A images (the most serious), 79 Category B images, and 95 Category C images, all dating back to 2021. This included 223 Category A videos, 29 Category B videos, and 16 Category C videos. The footage featured children as young as two years old, with one video showing a girl aged between four and six being vaginally raped. Officers also recovered a computer-generated (CGI) video depicting the rape of a girl aged six to eight by an adult male.

Within his Telegram conversations, McCallum used terms such as "no age limit", "diapers", and "rape CP" – shorthand for child pornography – when arranging exchanges. He distributed indecent images on at least 32 occasions to 29 different contacts, frequently using the phrase "100 for 100" when swapping large volumes of material with other paedophiles. In total, he disseminated 506 Category A images, 114 Category B images, and 223 Category C images.

In mitigation, Dean Pulling told the court that McCallum had no previous convictions and had not re-offended in the 18 months since his arrest. His online addiction began during lockdown, fuelled by loneliness, grief and isolation, and his behaviour spiralled from chatrooms into pornography and then into child abuse imagery. Mr Pulling said the defendant’s adverse childhood experiences, for which he never received therapy, had a "profound and lasting effect" on him. McCallum had voluntarily engaged with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and other support organisations.

Recorder Christian Jowett jailed McCallum for a total of two-and-a-half years. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was made subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
