Full Description

Greg Brookes, a 37-year-old man from Farm Meadow Road in Wigan, was jailed for the rape of a woman in St Helens. The incident occurred at an address in St Helens in 2024, as confirmed by Merseyside Police.

Brookes appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 19th December, following a week-long trial earlier that month where he was found guilty of the rape charge. The court sentenced him to four years and four months' imprisonment and issued a five-year restraining order against him.

Detective Constable Lauren Baker, who led the investigation, highlighted the strength of the evidence against Brookes in a statement released by Merseyside Police. She noted that despite this, Brookes subjected the victim to the additional trauma of a trial. 'I would like to praise the courage and dignity shown by the victim throughout the investigation and court proceedings,' DC Baker said.

DC Baker further emphasised the seriousness of the offence, stating that the outcome demonstrated Merseyside Police's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls. 'We will work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice,' she added, underscoring the force's dedication to protecting victims of sexual offences through specially trained officers and support services.

The case was prosecuted under the jurisdiction of Merseyside Police, who investigated the matter thoroughly. This sentencing serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for such crimes in the United Kingdom.
