Offence Summary

Akhtar Gul Rhamani sexually assaulted a boy and was sentenced to three years and two months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to child sexual offences.

Full Description

Akhtar Gul Rhamani, a 52-year-old resident of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has been imprisoned for committing child sexual offences. The case, reported to Staffordshire Police in October 2023, involved the sexual assault of a boy, leading to Rhamani's arrest shortly after the incident came to light.

Rhamani pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing. On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, he appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he was sentenced to three years and two months' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to protect the public from further harm, and Rhamani was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

The investigation was handled by Staffordshire Police, who commended the bravery of the survivor in reporting the abuse to a trusted adult. Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Burns, leading the case, stated: 'I would like to praise the bravery of the survivor in coming forward and telling a trusted adult what had happened to them.' This case underscores Staffordshire Police's commitment to tackling child sexual abuse, as highlighted in their official statement on the matter.

Details of the exact circumstances of the assault have not been publicly disclosed to protect the victim's identity, but the guilty plea and subsequent sentencing reflect the severity of the offence. The court's decision aims to deliver justice while ensuring ongoing safeguards against reoffending.
