Full Description

A convicted sex offender from Cornwall has received a further prison sentence after breaching a court order intended to prevent reoffending. Kevin Davis, aged 60, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday, 2 April 2024, where he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Davis had been released from HMP Channings Wood on 17 August 2023, following a previous sentence for sexual offences. Upon release, he was placed in a bail hostel in Camborne, and monitoring software was installed on his laptop to oversee his internet activity and limit access to children, as stipulated by the SHPO.

On 3 October 2023, police were alerted that Davis's laptop had been used in a concerning manner. A subsequent examination revealed that he had viewed a small number of Category C indecent images of children. Additionally, Davis had deleted his search history from the device, directly contravening the SHPO's requirements for stringent monitoring.

At the sentencing hearing, the court reminded Davis of the SHPO's terms and imposed a new custodial sentence of two and a half years. He is also required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely. The case was handled by the Devon and Cornwall Police Public Protection Unit, based in Bodmin.

PC Mark Kutler-Pearce from the unit commented: “Davis has a long history of offending behaviour and upon his release in August 2023 was being stringently monitored by the police Public Protection Unit. The further sentence given to Davis at court on 2 April has kept a dangerous individual from committing further offences towards members of the public and we feel the sentencing is just for the crime.” This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to manage high-risk offenders through protective orders and vigilant policing.
