Andrew Speers was jailed for 25 years after being found guilty of raping a child and possessing child sexual abuse material. He will remain on the sex offender register for life.

Full Description

Andrew Speers, a 53-year-old man from Bell Court in Birmingham, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for multiple sexual offences against a child, including rape and possession of indecent images.

Speers was arrested in July 2023 following a warrant executed at his home address by West Midlands Police. During the search, officers seized his digital devices, which were found to contain a substantial amount of child sexual abuse material. This discovery prompted further investigation by the West Midlands Police's Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET), leading to additional charges of raping a child.

Speers pleaded guilty to the charges of making indecent images of children but denied the rape allegations. The case proceeded to trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was found guilty of the multiple counts of child rape in March 2024. Sentencing occurred on 10 July 2024, with Judge [name not specified in article] imposing the 25-year custodial term. Speers has also been placed on the sex offender register indefinitely.
