Offence Summary

Lindy Leah, a care home worker, was convicted of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust, involving grooming and inappropriate behaviour towards a boy at a children's home in St Helens.

Full Description

Lindy Leah, 44, of Capesthorne Road, Orford, Warrington, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court in September 2024 for sexual offences against a boy at a children's home in St Helens where she worked. She was convicted following a trial of being a person in a position of trust inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Leah had also previously admitted to charges related to the supply of class B drugs, ketamine and cannabis resin.

The court heard that Leah became infatuated with the boy, displaying inappropriate and sexualised behaviour, including offering to return his phone in exchange for a 'love bite' and wearing skintight, revealing clothing in his presence. The boy's mother described her as a 'predator' who groomed her son with 'fake love', delivering an emotional victim statement.

Judge Brian Cummings noted that Leah quickly became infatuated and behaved in an improper manner. She was sentenced to 23 months in prison but, accounting for time already served, was likely to be released immediately or shortly thereafter. Leah must sign the sex offender register, comply with a sexual harm prevention order, and adhere to restraining orders against the boy and his mother for 10 years. This case was detailed in the St Helens Star's September round-up.
