Full Description

Michael Jones, 41, of Willowbank Gardens, Belfast, was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday, 20 April 2026. He had earlier pleaded guilty to a campaign of controlling or coercive behaviour, two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and sending a photograph of his genitals to a second victim in March 2026 with the intention of causing alarm, distress or humiliation.

The court heard that Jones’s abusive behaviour towards his partner began in 2014, shortly after their relationship started. He grew increasingly jealous and possessive, frequently making unfounded accusations of infidelity. Jones controlled her finances, isolated her from friends and family, repeatedly damaged their home, and subjected her to demeaning treatment over a period of years.

Two violent attacks stood out. On 24 December 2021, Jones grabbed his partner by the hair, forced her to the ground, spat in her face and kicked her in the stomach before damaging her car. A second, even more brutal assault occurred on 28 December 2024, when he punched her, threw her into a door, kicked her repeatedly, spat in her face and then threw her across the room.

In addition to the domestic abuse, Jones sent a photograph of his genitals via electronic communication to a second female victim in March 2026. He admitted that this was sent with the intention of causing alarm, distress or humiliation.

Even after the relationship ended, the first victim continued to receive abusive messages and threats from Jones, including a threat to stab her in the neck. In March 2026, she reported the entire history to North Wales Police. Jones was subsequently charged and remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing. The court also imposed lifetime restraining orders to protect both victims.

Investigating officer DC Annie Britton said: “I commend the victim for her courage to report over a decade of abusive behaviour and supporting the investigation throughout. Despite ending the relationship, the victim continued to receive messages of abuse and threats from Jones, including a threat to stab her in the neck. Nobody should live in fear or ever be made to feel unsafe in their home. We remain fully committed to protecting victims of domestic abuse and bringing perpetrators to justice.”
