Full Description

A 19-year-old man from Waltham Chase in Hampshire has been sentenced to five years in prison for grooming and sexually abusing two young girls. Calvin Da Fonte, residing at Sandy Hill Close, admitted to multiple serious sexual offences committed when he was 18 years old.

The offences occurred between July 2020 and May 2021 in the areas of Whiteley, Warsash, and Waltham Chase. Da Fonte pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a child and three counts of making indecent images of children at Portsmouth Crown Court on 7 December 2021. Sentencing was carried out by His Honour Judge Timothy Mousley QC on 1 April, resulting in a five-year custodial term.

Detective Constable Samantha Brown from Hampshire Constabulary’s specialist Operation Amberstone team described the case, stating: “Da Fonte groomed, manipulated and abused these young girls for his own gratification. He knew their age, and knew that his deplorable actions were wrong, which is why he initially tried to deny to police that he had committed these offences.” The victims, both under 16 at the time, were targeted in a manner that highlighted the predatory nature of the crimes.

The court heard details of how Da Fonte engaged in sexual activity with the girls and produced indecent images, exploiting their vulnerability. This case underscores the ongoing efforts by Hampshire Constabulary to combat child sexual exploitation through operations like Amberstone.
