Tristan Clamp, a 33-year-old man from Ringwood, Hampshire, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for a series of shocking sex offences committed against women and girls over more than ten years. The offences, which took place between January 2010 and August 2021, included taking and possessing indecent photographs and pseudo-photographs of children, voyeurism, operating equipment beneath the clothing of another person without their consent, and possession of a paedophile manual.
At Southampton Crown Court, Clamp was described by the judge as a 'deceitful and deviant offender'. The court heard how Clamp's actions involved the creation and retention of horrendous images of child abuse, as well as the use of hidden devices for voyeuristic purposes. The paedophile manual in his possession was labelled an 'abominable document' by the judge, highlighting the severity of his depravity.
Sentencing remarks included strong criticism of Clamp's character. The judge expressed doubts about the genuineness of his remorse, stating: 'I have great doubts as to whether your remorse is genuine and I agree with the victim, who states your deceit was ongoing for many years.' Addressing a letter Clamp had submitted to the court, the judge added: 'In my judgement, your letter to the court smacks of self-pity and regret and is entirely self-serving.'
The victim, praised as 'courageous' by the judge, delivered a powerful victim personal statement in court, detailing the severe psychological harm she had suffered as a result of Clamp's actions. In addition to the custodial sentence, Clamp must serve an extended licence period of seven and a half years upon release. He is also subject to restraining orders and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, with forfeiture orders applied to all devices containing illegal material.
PC Hannah Wood from Hampshire Constabulary, who investigated the case, welcomed the sentencing, saying: 'I am so pleased that the victims in this case have finally seen justice and seen Clamp put behind bars, where he belongs.' She echoed the judge's praise for the victims' bravery and emphasised the police's commitment to pursuing such offenders, noting: 'This should also be a very clear message to other offenders out there that we will always work tirelessly to ensure you are brought to justice.'
The case, reported by The News on 3 September 2024, underscores the long-term impact of Clamp's crimes and the determination of law enforcement to secure convictions in sexual offence cases.
