A sexual predator, Gyulhan Hyusein, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young woman in Warrington. The attack occurred in the early hours of 16 October 2022, as the victim, a woman in her late teens, was walking home along Orford Lane after a night out with friends.
According to court proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court, Hyusein approached the victim around 3am, placing his arm around her and putting his hand down her back. Despite her immediate pushback and verbal refusal of 'no', he persisted, forcing his hand down her trousers and touching her inappropriately. The woman attempted to flee, but Hyusein followed her onto Orford Avenue, where he again assaulted her in the same manner. As she screamed for help, he dragged her into a nearby alleyway, pushed her against a wall, and continued the inappropriate touching with his fingers. The victim fought back, trying to call for assistance, but Hyusein seized her phone and discarded it.
Hyusein eventually withdrew, allowing the victim to seek refuge at a nearby house, from where police were summoned. Officers from Cheshire Police arrested him just hours later, thanks to vigilant CCTV monitoring in Warrington town centre that identified him on live footage while reviewing attack recordings.
Hyusein, aged 25 and residing on Longford Street in Orford, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. On 23 February 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, ordered to join the sex offenders' register for life, and issued a lifetime restraining order barring contact with the victim. Detective Constable Laura Sandbach, who led the investigation, described Hyusein as 'a sexual predator' who targeted an innocent woman despite her clear refusals, calling the ordeal 'absolutely terrifying' for the victim and praising her bravery. She highlighted the role of an 'eagle-eyed officer' in securing his swift arrest, noting that the sentence provides some closure while ensuring he faces the consequences.
Detective Sergeant Joe Davies commended the investigative team's dedication, emphasising that no one should endure such an experience and encouraging other victims of sexual offences to report them, with Cheshire Police prioritising thorough investigations centred on victim needs.
The case, reported by the Warrington Guardian on 24 February 2023, underscores the dangers faced by individuals walking alone at night and the effectiveness of local policing in responding to sexual violence.
