Offence Summary

Satwinder Singh attempted to grope the breasts of two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, on Bournemouth beach, approaching them under false pretences and persisting despite their youth being disclosed.

Full Description

Satwinder Singh, a 32-year-old man, was jailed for attempting to sexually assault two teenage girls on Bournemouth beach in Dorset during June 2023. The incidents involved Singh targeting vulnerable young females in a public seaside setting, highlighting concerns over predatory behaviour in tourist areas.

The first approach involved a 15-year-old girl whom Singh knew was underage after she explicitly told him her age. Despite this, he attempted to touch her breast. The situation was only halted when her sister intervened. Mere minutes later, Singh targeted another pair of teenage girls, aged around 17, pretending to assist one who had fallen from an e-scooter as a ruse to grope her breast. Witnesses on the busy beach reported the suspicious behaviour, leading to swift police involvement.

Dorset Police arrested Singh shortly after the complaints, with investigations confirming his actions constituted attempted sexual assault. At Bournemouth Crown Court, the prosecution detailed the brazen nature of the attacks in broad daylight, emphasising the fear instilled in the victims. Singh pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual assault, acknowledging his intent to commit indecent acts against minors.

In May 2024, Singh was sentenced to one year's imprisonment, with the judge condemning his 'selfish and predatory' conduct. The case drew attention to beach safety measures in Bournemouth, a popular summer destination. Source: Bournemouth Echo, covering notable Dorset court cases. Quote from court: 'These were deliberate attempts to exploit young girls in a place where they should feel safe.'

  • Incidents occurred on Bournemouth beach, a crowded public area.
  • Singh's approaches were opportunistic and targeted teenagers specifically.
  • Police response was prompt, preventing further incidents.
