Full Description

A 21-year-old man from Poole has been sentenced for possessing indecent images of children following his arrest on unrelated matters. Arda Arslan, of St Martin’s Road in Upton, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on 21 June 2024, where he pleaded guilty to possessing category B and C images of children.

Prosecutor Helen Easterbrook detailed that the images depicted children no older than eight and ten years old, discovered during Arslan's arrest for other issues. The court heard that Arslan was aged 17 to 18 at the time the offences occurred, and he was described as being 'young for his years' and socially isolated, though supported by a loving family. Defence counsel Nick Tucker emphasised that Arslan was of previous good character.

Recorder Tait imposed a two-year community order on Arslan, which includes a programme treatment requirement, 40 days of rehabilitation activity, and 180 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, Arslan will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years to mitigate future risks.

The case was reported by the Bournemouth Echo on 14 July 2024, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation in the region. Dorset Police were involved in the initial arrest that led to the discovery of the images.
