Full Description

Mark Bardell, a 36-year-old man from Oakhill in Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for seven years after being found guilty of rape. The offence occurred in 2021, when Staffordshire Police were alerted following a report from the victim, a woman who had been subjected to the assault.

The case proceeded to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where Bardell was convicted by a jury based on compelling evidence gathered by the police. Detective Constable Jennie Holland, who led the investigation, highlighted the strength of the evidence and the survivor's bravery in coming forward. She stated: 'We secured all of the evidence needed to charge Bardell with rape. Because of the strength of this evidence, and the bravery of the survivor, the jury deemed him guilty. I’d like to commend the survivor in this case for her tremendous bravery in coming forward and telling us about what happened. Through her courage, and the work of the officers and staff in Staffordshire, we’ve been able to put another dangerous sex offender behind bars.'

Bardell, described as a dangerous individual by authorities, was sentenced to a custodial term of seven years. In addition to his imprisonment, he was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely to monitor his activities post-release. The sentencing took place at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, underscoring the severity of the crime and the court's commitment to protecting the public from such offenders.

This case, reported by Stoke-on-Trent Live on 2 December 2025, serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by Staffordshire Police to address sexual offences in the region. The conviction was secured through meticulous police work and the victim's determination to seek justice.
