Full Description

A man from Stockbridge has been sentenced to over three years in prison following his conviction for multiple sexual assaults on seven women. Jason Larry Colbourne, aged 56, was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of eight counts of sexual assault by touching. The offences took place between March 2023 and October 2023 in the Winchester and Andover areas of Hampshire.

Colbourne appeared at Winchester Crown Court on 15 November 2024, where Judge Christopher Bailey imposed a custodial sentence of three and a half years. In addition to the prison term, Colbourne was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his behaviour and protect the public. All seven victims were granted restraining orders against him, ensuring no further contact can be made.

The case was investigated by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, who commended the bravery of the victims in coming forward. Detective Constable Sarah Jenkins, who led the investigation, stated: 'Colbourne's actions were predatory and caused significant distress to his victims. This conviction sends a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will pursue offenders relentlessly.' The force highlighted that the assaults involved unwanted touching of an intimate nature, occurring in public and private settings across the specified locations.

Following his arrest in late 2023, Colbourne was charged and stood trial in September 2024. The jury deliberated for less than a day before delivering guilty verdicts on all counts. Court reports from the Hampshire Chronicle noted the emotional impact on the victims, with one anonymous victim describing the ordeal as 'life-changing and terrifying'. The sentencing hearing focused on the pattern of offending, with the prosecution arguing that Colbourne targeted vulnerable women opportunistically.

This case underscores ongoing efforts by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to tackle sexual offences, with a dedicated team supporting survivors throughout the judicial process. The full details were reported on the official police website on 15 November 2024.
