Full Description

Andre Reid, a 26-year-old man from Woodside Street in Tameside, was convicted of rape following a non-consensual assault that occurred in the late 2010s. The incident was reported to Greater Manchester Police, leading to a thorough investigation that involved interviewing several witnesses and providing ongoing support to the victim throughout the legal process.

The case culminated at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, 5 December 2025, where Reid was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, a restraining order was imposed, prohibiting Reid from any contact with the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.

During the sentencing hearing, the victim demonstrated remarkable courage by standing up in court to deliver her personal impact statement directly to Reid. She expressed the profound emotional burden she had carried in silence since the attack, stating, 'I have carried the weight of what you did in silence. You need to hear the impact of your choices in my own words, in my own voice.' She emphasised the fear and life changes inflicted by the assault, confronting Reid with the reality of his actions and affirming her resilience: 'I can finally say this – I survived you, Andre. I am free from your control, free from your lies, free from the shame that never belonged to me.'

Detective Sergeant John Dineen from Greater Manchester Police's Rochdale district commended the victim's bravery, describing the assault as 'devastating' and praising her determination through the trial. The police investigation was comprehensive, aimed at establishing the facts and bringing the perpetrator to justice, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
